The climate camp in Mainshill Wood near Doulgas in Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. This site has been squatted by protestors protesting against Scottish Coal getting planning permission to open up a new open cast coal mine on the site. As well as the disastrous climate change consequences of continuing to mine and burn coal, living close to open cast coal mines has a huge negative affect on peoples health. Rates of Chronic Pulmonary Obstructive Disease are up to 5 times the national average as well as vastly increased risk of asthma, hypertension, hypothyroidism and cancer.
