A woman in an Ambleside garden in the Lake District uses a garden hose to water the plants on the last day before the introduction of the hosepipe ban, by Water company, UNited Utilities in the North West. The only thing that has kept the garden plants going has been regular watering through the drought. The first 6 months of the year have seen less than 50% of normal rainfall, the driest start to the year since 1929.
