The canyon just downstream from Dettifoss waterfall, the largest in Europe by volume, with a drop of 47 metres and an average discharge of 200 metres cubed per second. it is 100 metres wide and takes meltwater in the river Jokulsa a Fjollum from the Vatnajokull ice sheet.
