IMG_2708_p.jpg In 2008 China became the worlds largest emitter of greenouse gases, fuelled by high levels of economic growth and electricity mainly being generated by dirty, highly polluting coal fired power stations. The Chinese are also investing heavily in renewable energy projects. Nearly every housing complex that I came across in many cities in northern china had solar water heaters on their roof. Here members of the local communist party from Suihua city proudly show off their new housing development all with solar water heaters on the roof.

IMG_6834_lower.jpg A gantry linking the jack up barge, Kraken with a transition piece, of a wind turbines at the Walney Offshore windfarm project, off Barrow in Furness, Cumbria, UK. When finished it will have 102, 3.6 MW turbines, giving a total capacity of the Walney project of 367.2 MW, enough to power 320,000 homes. The rotor diameter of the turbines is 107m for Walney 1 and 120 m for Walney 2. The wind farm is owned and constructed by Dong Energy.
